Vatican open to accord with dissident traditionalists
Catholicism

At Reuters:

The Vatican on Wednesday told an ultra-traditionalist splinter group they will have to accept some non-negotiable doctrinal principles before they can fully rejoin the Roman Catholic Church.

Leaders of the dissident Society of Saint Pius X (SSPX) held several hours of meetings with the Vatican's top doctrinal officials to discuss how to finalize several years of negotiations aimed at eventual reconciliation.

I have only vague notions about what Opus Dei or SSPX find so obnoxious about the conclusions of Vatican 2; it would have been nice if the article had at least bullet pointed a few. The article pretty much gives just "such as its historic reconciliation with Judaism and other faiths". Then I guess it depends on what "reconciliation" means. If it means reduced animosity and cooperation on humanitarian works - OK, if it means 'recognition' of the validity of alternate theologies - NOT [but I really can't see the Vatican meaning the second category].
whitemice  - Wow, now here is media bias.   |2011-09-15 06:06:10
I saw and followed the Reuters link from this article to http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/08/18/us-sp.... Which reads more like an attack than a "timeline". I'm not a political conservative or a Catholic - but that "article" represents a ridiculous bias; it is more a things-the-pope-did-that-offend-my-modern-sentimen ts than any kind of real report.
